This is a moderately easy 22-mile round trip with 1,300' of rolling climb along the west and north sides of Green Mountain Reservoir north of Silverthorne. Consider having lunch in the town of Heeney. This secluded hamlet is a relaxing venture for any road bike enthusiast.
Drive approximately 14 miles north of the Silverthorne Elementary School on Highway 9 to where Heeney Road/CR 30 turns off to the left (west) just past mile marker 118. Park in the dirt turnout on the east side of Highway 9. Alternatively, you can park at the Silverthorne Elementary School and make this a 60 mile round trip. The first 10 miles of Highway 9 to Ute Pass Road has a very nice, wide shoulder; however, the last 4 miles to Heeney Road has a narrow shoulder and a lot of traffic.
You could ride this as a loop ride by returning back south down Hwy 9; however, as noted above there is very little shoulder and a lot of traffic to/from Kremmling on this section of the road. Out & back along the west side of the lake is a much more pleasant ride!
